“Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” -Mark 7:28, NIV
Days were hard for this woman. Every day, she woke up pretty early in the morn and cooked for her husband, drew some water from the well, mopped, dusted, dressed her children, kissed her husband in the mouth, checked for their homework, dropped them off to school... and then she had all the time to take care of the little one. Her eyes were always droopy. Her face was slashed red. One second she said, “Mommy”, and the other she felt dizzy and woozy. Nothing she made could stomach her pain away.
Every night, her side of the bed was dark and cold. As her husband slept like a baby, she wept like a grieving woman while her tears ran through her salty cheeks. Ants were weary; they knew things were so bad in that house, they didn't even dare take their breadcrumbs away. Her neighbors on the left were having a party. Her neighbors on the right conspired with some shady Pharisees in order to kill Jesus. Her neighbors out front were visiting his parents. And there she was: one minute laying, the other one sitting, the other hour kneeling...asking for help. So much was her pain she collapsed every day, snoring every time she tilted her head.
The woman ran and ran and ran, taking the child on a piggyback ride, packing her breadcrumbs while the dog aimlessly followed them. The more they reached the village, the closer they were to the whole scene of the event. What became the source of rumor mills was the greatest moment ever in her life! She followed a house that had His smell...It was so close... It was so far, it was close...
When she entered, she saw a crowded house and some invasive buggers. Nothing she could do, only—and there He was! Everybody cornered Him, clamoring for a far-fetched miracle like changing oil to wine or finding a fork on a trashcan. But she had to do it...She had to stop him, dead on His tracks.
“Son of David, have mercy on me!”, she yelled at him as he slid through His feet.
At the same time, the droopy-eyed girl let the breadcrumbs fall from their hand, much to the enjoyment of her dog. And Jesus looked at her with His eyes of fire.
