As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. –Matthew 20:29, NIV 2011
Jesus grew up in the eclectic mix of First-century Judea. There were Pharisees, Saducess, Greeks, Romans, Jews, slaves, scythes, Jewish converts and roman kiss-ups in the mixer. And on top of that, the mendigos, the hookers (did I say!), the lepers and the sick and the women and the elderly. These were the men and women that helped shape the history of Jesus’ time…and even Jesus Himself became the shape of their history!

“Don’t think I am a wicked woman! For I have been praying out of great anguish and sorrow.” “In that case,” Eli said, “go in peace! May the God of Israel grant the request you have asked of him.” –1 Samuel 1: 16 & 17, NLT All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. –Ephesians 1:3, NLT But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. –Hebrews 3:13, NIV 2011 I feel like I’ve returned to my roots.
As I gave myself a “mental recap” of all the things that happened during my foray in high school (especially these last two years foraying in Maryland and back), one thing I hold dear: many things didn’t go as I expected, much less how I planned them. And now that I’m finishing one goal in life, returning to Point “A” makes me reminisce about what have I actually accomplished in life. When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” –Acts 8:18 & 19, NIV 2011 Laying hands is a blessing meant to share, although not with everyone. We recognize that it is God who imparts His Holy Spirit, not us. We also recognize that it is God who heals or does any other thing under the Sun, not us. We also recognize that not everyone can have their hands imposed by a believer; we must be practical and discerning of whatever happens (1 Tim. 5:22) (Wrote it just now…Thank You, God!)
They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. –Matthew 27: 28 & 29, NIV 2011 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” –John 16:33, NIV 2011 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. –Phillipians 2: 9-11, NIV 2011 |
