Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. –Genesis 11:7, KJV 1611
However, how would the Burj Khalifa fare with Babel-if it was ever finished?
Man wanted to create an empire of defiance- for that was the main purpose of the tower. And God wasn’t gonna have it. He wasn’t willing to share His glory, not even an ounce of it to puny humans who wanted to test God’s patience. So He wisely did something: He confused their speech. But how could He do that, you say?
Well, how would you feel if you were speaking English, and your evil, scheming friend was speaking Tagalog. Or your mother was speaking Haitian Creole. Or your father, French. Or your sister, Afrikaans. Or your dog, well… let’s say the dog must’ve kept barking normally (curveball, everyone?).
Frustrated, those people who wanted to challenge God were challenged to find others they could at least understand. And in this way, man was spread around the world.
Hmm… So tongues were used to divide people?
