The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” -Psalm 53:1a, WEB
The first camp lives in the clouds. They know that the sky is blue, the sun is shining even if it’s raining, and the rain’s life-giving powers are revitalizing the dirty soil. Their hearts believe in angels, cruelty is a human construct, and they believe there are still good people in this world. This camp is regarded as… the idealists. Dreams and illusions are just within their reach.
The second camp has their feet firmly planted in the ground. Their take-no-prisoners attitude leaves them expectant of unstable skies, grab their cloud sunscreen just in case, and they bring an umbrella for added protection. They’re concerned for the white-washed bum, cruelty happens but tries to act detached, and trust must be earned for them to do any rapid favors. They are named… the realists. They have dreams, of course; they’ve only got to work hard at them.
The last camp is a social pariah: they’re fascists, Nazis, and radical fringe Republicans. The sky is PMS and it’ll rain in the nearer future, the sun would always bother them, and blame the rain because it’ll extend their needless cold. Angels are Hell, cruelty is the world’s niche, and good is only for hippies and suckers. This camp is unfortunately baptized as… the cynics. Dreams and illusions? What a load of… baklava!
Let’s think for a minute. Like the rest of existence, everything has its own flawed view. Idealists have great intentions, perhaps the best of the bunch. But life can be a puerca, and illusions quickly fade away when they don’t go as we want. The realists are mostly balanced with care, but even God took risks when He made the world. Didn’t He go through all the trouble He did just to get closer to us? And the cynics… Their attitude’s beyond messed up.
Anyone can fall into the category of fools –even I do so from time to time. However, there has to be something to believe in! Attitudes like these trample, even short-circuits God’s power. It’s like saying, “I’m not going to find love” or “I don’t think I’ll do anything right.” In that attitude, cynics say to Him, “You’re not good, and You’ll never do YOUR job right!” And for that, there is an even worse fate than destiny.
I’d rather be naïve than scowl like a fool.
