The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. –Psalms 126:4, NIV 2011
Perhaps the most important aspect of David’s psalms is their collective expression of worship. He wanted to exalt God’s name, God’s holiness, God’s creativity into making this world, God’s justice, and even God’s Law. How awesome it is to know that God is great!
But I want to focus on the word “great”. In the Merriam-Webster dictionary, “great” is used here as “remarkable in magnitude, degree, or effectiveness.” If we divide this definition carefully, we can see that God has done things:
- Remarkable in attitude;
- Remarkable in degree;
- And remarkable in effectiveness.
Psalm 62:1 & 2 says, “Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” When God does something great in us, our whole attitude changes to one of submission and worship. Remember, too, that every knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess that He is Lord, sooner- or later.
Psalm 40:1-3 says, “I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORD and put their trust in him.” When God does something great in us, He will ALWAYS, ALWAYS end with a bang. As simple as it may look, as small a miracle or not, it will always be great for us when the Hand of the Lord is with us.
And Psalm 51:13 says, “Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you.” When God does something great in us, we will want to tell others about it. Forgiveness, gratitude, even an encounter with a butterfly can become a beautiful dissertation of our faith. God will never do something we can’t hold on, but He will do something that we don’t understand…
Sorry it was long, but I hope you could know that we can’t shut up when God does great things! We’re alive, we’re kicking, and we’re gunning for more!
April Fools day! And have a great weekend!
