I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds. –Revelation 2:23, NIV, emphasis mine
Unfortunately (and for a certain purpose), man can only go so far to limit the way they perceive other people. (Thank God we don’t have X-ray vision, or we would’ve been seeing more than fractured bones!) However, God can see beyond what flawed man can see.
He saw the sins in the church of Thyatira: those who tolerate Jezebel’s teachings, those who tolerate their immorality, and even those who tolerate Jezebel not inducing herself to the slightest bit of remorse. Those were the ones God was going to spew out of the congregation, while calling the rest to stay faithful and remain with what they learned until He returns.
1 Corinthians 2:12 says, “For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.” Only God has the chance to build up and change hearts and minds. Who else has the right to know what I know except the one who made me?
