So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ -Mathtew 6:31, NIV
Every day, we make a list. “Walk the dog/wash clothes/buy a new pair of shoes/cook...”, and so on and so forth. And we strive to complete everything that is on our lists, checking them out one by one. This is good, for they help us gain a sense of order and direction. Unfortunately, life is pushing us so that every time we check something out, we must look around and add something else on the list.
When we finish walking the dog, we return to check if his droppings are carefully placed where they should be.
When we buy a new pair of shoes, we are overwhelmed with how many, how costly, how comfortable, how tall, how small, how crazy, how creative, how innovative, how sexy, and how it'll create envy in our friends.
When we cook, we must consider every palate and taste bud available: he doesn't like fish and chicken, she doesn't like anything sweet, they love turkey but hate pizza, and they've been craving for some McDonald's...
This and this and the other thing, if it's out of a list...Then it's out of control. And what becomes a tool becomes a snare...it constrains us.
Where do we go? What shall we do? This is not fair!
We can break the list, but it won't solve our chaos.
We can keep adding to the list and shorten our lifespans.
We can destroy everything that threatens our sense of order, but it'll make an even bigger mess.
Or we can take time and write “TRUST GOD” at the very, very first slot of our list...And the rest shall follow soon.
