When my heart was grieved and my spirit embittered, I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before you. Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. –Psalm 73:21-24, NIV 2010
Why was he nice when others were being nasty –and getting prosper at it? That is, until he met God at His sanctuary.
God knows life is not fair. Like knowing that you’re oh, so advanced at everyone academically, you feel so backwards at many mundane tasks –like driving a car. Or knowing so much about books, you forget about the malice of the streets everyone else seems to have. Or thinking about things past, you harbor unknown bitterness that can erode your life. And that is the most dangerous part.
That is, until you meet God. He changes everything.
Bitterness is nothing any human being should have. It makes you feel left behind, stuck between the motions. It starts as a little root that can grow into a hellish and unsustainable attitude. Be it cars, malice, failed relationships, projects or even spiritual advances that look like they would’ve helped if you had more oomph to do so, everyone has dealt with some dereliction (note, abandonment) in their lives. But it’s up to us to deal with it.
And I still believe in Love that brings new mercies in the morning…
Love is not bitter…
