Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. –Psalms 33:8, NIV 2010
Love is not all fun and games, though.
On one side, it’s easy to get used to the mushy, mushy, gooey, gooey side of love: the one filled with everlasting hearts and kisses, Xs and Os, and romantic comedies starting Katherine Heigl. (No offense.) On another, we find a hard shell for those who want to love and be loved, even though they think they can’t find such comfort on their walk through life.
Let ALL THE EARTH fear the LORD… Is it terror? Is it anguish? Is it pain? No, it’s respect. While we have to “continue to work out our salvation with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12), and we know that there is no wiggle room for God’s love (you either love Him, or don’t), it does not mean that we will live in a box all of our days.
Our God is awesome. He created the Earth, the Sun, the Moon, and the mountains, and everything else. And on top of that, He called it good. We fear Him because He’s done mighty works in our favor-those we’ve seen, and we will see soon.
Our God is holy. He created the Earth, the Sun, the Moon, and the mountains, and everything else. And on top of that, He did so in a specific order. We fear Him because His holiness brings righteousness and orderly salvation to our lives.
Our God is righteous. He created the Earth, the Sun, the Moon, and the mountains, and everything else. And on top of that, He treated man as a friend. We fear Him because His righteousness will bring us closer to Him…And because the righteous will see God.
Love is serious, eh?
