Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. -Exodus 14:21 & 22, NIV
Israel felt afraid. The closer they crossed to the sea, the more dangers they saw. Their hearts began to pound and almost blew fire from their chests. Mothers tightly clung their hearts to their kin. Fathers marched with their horses and provisions, unsure they will ever make it alive. Even donkeys had to calm themselves down because Someone up there told them to lead by example.
“I AM...I AM...I AM...” That name repeated through Moses' brain. He rubbed his beard. He sighed. He deeply sighed. “What am I going to do?”, he fretted as he scratched his head. It was impossible: no man has ever attempted to cross a live and bulging sea, much less bring a nation of a few million enslaved hearts to cross with him!
“I AM...We need Your help...”, Moses tearfully asked the I AM.
“But, Father, I don't know how! I said to them, 'Today will be a day of salvation', but I cannot see it. Ramses' armies are inching closer and closer to us, and I am afraid they will be coerced to return or even mur--”
“There goes that word, again: afraid. I never created that word, and I sure not gave that word to My creation!”
“I am sorry, I AM. But I can't hide this pain in my heart.” Moses bowed his head with tears streaming in his face. Failure after failure —death is sure to follow.
“I know, My son; I know.” He quickly looked up. “This is why I gave you a wooden staff. It is nothing but broken wood...but who can tell Me that it doesn't have the power to change the world?” Moses looked at the staff: its branches, its dust, its badger of termites...how couldn't he ever notice? “I want you, My son, to walk. I will part the sea and drown the chariots...But you have to walk.”
“Father--”
“Walk to the sea! I command you to walk!”
