Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written: “So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.” -Romans 3:4, NIV
(That last part came out a bit too Fame.)
It happens a lot like geometric proofs. There are two opposing columns. The left side shows the statements, and the right side has the reasons: in other words, one side says “This”, while the other one says “That”. They will keep biting at each other, biting at each statement. “Triangle ABC is isosceles, but square DEFG perpendicularly bisects through it”. “That is because pentagon ABEFG is irregular and is located in another plane that showcases a 90° right angle.” And so the proofs go on until one runs out of statements, or the other one runs out of rebuttals... Which is a slight cop-out, since the proofing goal has been given in the first place.
Same thing goes for debates and arguments and actions, for the sake of it. A stupid comment about us pops up and the first thing our minds are tempted to do is to prove them wrong. We ARE smart! We ARE beautiful! We ARE NOT pretentious and malicious- ain’t nobody got time for that! (Sorry, Sweet Brown.) Then our already-fragile self-esteem is filled with tiny, perforated holes in our lungs. Then it breathes with the filtrafa to the brain and to the heart. And that’s a problem: that’s the perfect chance for the Devil to tempt us to do stupid things. Really stupid things.
In theory, there are no reasons to prove our worth to anyone. We’re all on the same level, the same spiritual status, the same level of rewards, the same rights, the same actions. But something happened, something messed with our brains. Maybe a bit of jealousy mixed in with megalomania. Perhaps some self-aggression got in the middle. Or maybe life hurt us pretty bad –bad enough to mess with our worth. And, if I’m allowed to go fuego y candela, mind you, the Devil took advantage –and we didn’t see it coming.
It’s okay; it happens to the best of us. But some way or another, it has to stop! If God doesn’t need to be proven –and He deals with whips and lashes and unforgiving tongues every day of the week-, then what power do we give people over us without them even knowing it?
It’s not worth it: We’re made to serve, not made to prove.
