I am Joseph! Is my father still living?” —Genesis 45:3, NIV
"Shh!", Joseph replied in a faraway room. He wasn't in the mood to see no one —not even his brothers, not even his steward, not even Pharaoh, who asked his input for the royal harvest festivals. He was pretty busy making sure that every royal provision computed well, because some people complained that the royal coffers were quickly depleting. Then an accident somewhere in Luxor happened, so Joseph had to take care of that issue and visit him before he died. And Nubians complained they received no just compensation of their provisions because every little thing they grew was taken by rebels and bandits, and some crooked guards.
No, he cried on the desk, mixing his salty tears with the ink of his latest decree.
The brothers waited in another room. They heard some crazy lady wail and hoot and holler in pain for some sort of reason. "Is it cavities?", Reuben asked. Then they heard the vizier come back to the room in royal fanfare and head held high.
"I want no one...in the room." Everyone left as they followed his order. Of course, the royal guards moved their positions to the front of the room, letting the servants leave to do their other chores while the guards closed the door behind them and stood there, waiting and protecting the room.
Then he let a tear fall from his left cheek. Then came two from the right. And three from the left. He kissed every brother in the cheek —Reuben, Simeon, Isachar, and the rest. Then he crouched to kiss Benjamin in both his cheeks, and wrapped his arms around in tears. Benjamin looked at him, and cried because he had no other choice to do against.
"I...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you all. But it is me! And I am alive!" Everyone looked at each other with disbelief. They said nothing, and they were scared over what to do next, so they bowed to the vizier, unknowingly receiving the call that their long-lost brother is now alive.
