“It’s all right,” he said. “Don’t be afraid. Your God, the God of your father, has given you treasure in your sacks; I received your silver.” Then he brought Simeon out to them. —Genesis 43:23, NIV
The brothers knew what would happen if they dared to come back and buy some more grain, but they felt such a move was too risky because they expected some more drilling questions and even some imprisonment led by the vizier. Back there, they sacrificed Simeon to bit the dust for his family. But there was something eerily too familiar about that vizier...
He constantly asked about the smallest one, Benjamin. "Why didn't he come with you?...Oh, so he was too small to come alone?...Well, I started ruling since I was his age...?" Some days he'd appear with a slightly faded grin across his face, while others Simeon would listen some wailing in the other room. Maybe they were torturing someone who used a safety word. Or it could be the vizier, he always gave a weird vibe of mental instability...whatever that meant at a time.
Crossing towards Egypt in desperation, they once again faced the steward. He previously received the vizier's tearful orders to slaughter an animal and prepare an enormous banquet as soon as he saw his brothers. They explained everything with fear in his presence: "We came here to buy food for our family. But as we left, we discovered that every sack had the same weight of money we used to buy our food. And we fear for our lives, for we are not crooks", and tears streamed down their faces, "and we don't know who did this!"
"Do not worry", the steward comforted them. "God gave you the treasure; I received the money. Now, come with me...", and everybody looked at him with question marks in their faces. What did he mean with "God gave you the treasure", if they've been bad brothers with themselves?
