My salvation and my honor depend on God ; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. –Psalm 62:7, NIV 2010, emphasis mine
Honor was such a huge thing in the olden days, inasmuch now. People would literally kill others because of their honor, cleaning their names tainted by others. Whoever messed with someone meant trouble for them and their families! Aye, do you imagine how would it be if we kept feudalism alive and kicking!?!?
But sometimes we forget that our honor depends on God. Sometimes we (and I boldly include myself) try to honor God too much –as in, we unknowingly show off as Pharisees. Why? Because…
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel. –Matthew 23: 23 & 24, NIV 2010, emphasis mine
The honor we’re talking about means kabode in Hebrew. In the KJV Bible, this word is translated to glory. This glory is defined in abundance, riches, provisions, reputation and reverence.
God is our abundance.
God is our riches.
God is our provision
God is our reputation.
God is our reverence.
He will give you (spiritual) abundance, riches, provisions, and reputation if you (really) revere Him as God. On Him and ONLY HIM –not on law, or on show, but on God does our honor lie true.
(And between you and me, I really don’t want to break any more promises…)
