Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. —Mark 10:49 & 50, NIV
Some days, he had to crawl. Once, the children said, "that blind man sure know show to move with both arms and legs!" At that very moment, someone stole his Lebanese cedar cane he received as a Purim gift from the Pharisees (who also "asked" him to "donate" his only had made of offerings to the Temple), and kicked him in the shins. Luckily, he didn't injure himself, as he had the reflexes of a cat with the senses of a mole—he knew every rock, every speck of dust, and every grain of sand as if he owned the city. "Living like this for a life makes you crafty", he said, as he took another Lebanese cedar cane a man named Joseph one crafted as a parting gift.
The day He was coming, He was so ecstatic, the man forgot to bring the cane. And as a result, he tripped on everything: carriages, horses, fruit stands and children (who gave him a kick in the shin anyway). He mistakenly grabbed a cloak from his lady friend who sold cloaks at another produce stand. For some reason, he ran and ran as fast as he could.
But he tripped with the wave of people who wanted to see Him. At that moment, He was passing by. People were screaming with chickens and children and cobblers in hand, waiting for the Master to touch that or them, with little to no avail. Not that He wasn't interested in them or that—He was waiting for something else.
It was no use, he thought! He was already leaving, and I can't do anything about it, he said to himself; is there any way he can get His attention, is there something I can call on Him because I really, really, really need to call on Him; is there any other way not to make a scene because if the world knows they'll try to shut me up with rock and dirt and—but you've got to be strong, you've got to be--
SON OF DAVID, HAVE MERCY ON ME!
Everyone looked to the barren man of dust and shame. The Master looked at Him. And He smiled.
