But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall. —Malachi 4: 2, NIV
We on this planet, however, need the sun to live. We cannot live without the sun's power engulfing us, and our bodies cannot contain much of its energy without burning itself. We need the sun's healing rays, and we need the sun to make the world around us grow. Without the sun, there would be no time. Without the sun, we would never enjoy the hottest seasons—in fact, there would never be any season, anything to eat, or anything to drink! Water in its shapes and sizes would never exist. The celestial bodies would make us tremble in fear and not in awe, for the sun cannot shield them from our eyes throughout the day. And, even worse, nothing inside of us would shine: we would all be filled with darkness.
Granted, we are all born into darkness and leave to darkness. Our bodies surrender themselves to darkness whenever they have the chance. Without the sun, its power would be uncontrollable, and humans, animals, and plants alike would have to suffer the consequences of an empty life. For the sun gives us hope: even if the day is dark or the heavens are pouring, we know the sun is there, waiting for the perfect moment to shine. And, when the sun rises, the world would once again give into its awe.
