Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him. The LORD said to Satan, “The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?” –Zechariah 3:1 & 2, NIV
It all sounds like a typical Freddy Krueger-esque nightmare. But, ay, it’s way worse than that: that’s the work of Satan, the Accuser. He’s the perfect liar, deceiver, and annoyance every living being in the Earth must deal with. He’s the one that the whole world seems to pin its blame on. He’s the one that tried to take God’s throne in the heavens. And he’s the one that tries to take our hearts here in the Earth.
Take a guy named Joshua. Just imagine Satan nagging to God about this fella, the high priest of Israel. He was all like, “Nag-nag-nag! Look at him! He failed you! He didn’t do his job! He’s as dirty as YOUR people! Nag-nag-nag!” Joshua’s face must have been as read as the carmesí, ashamed of the guilt he never asked to carry. The stench of defeat must have been powerful emanating from that poor man! But little did he know…
How an angel of the Lord came and rebuked Satan with all the authority God can give to him! How ministers of fire interceded for the poor priest! How did Joshua receive new garments of grace and power! How dare he mess with the angels of God!
How dare he mess with God’s creation!
