You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die. –Genesis 2:16b & 17, NIV
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” –Genesis 3:1, NIV
I love the color, it’s so tempting… Oh, boy, here we go again! That scarlet red is purely inviting… I bet it tastes pretty good! But, what if it tastes gross? Or yucky? Or icky? Or nasty? Better not be too close… But its aroma is so pungent to be ignored, and it pulls me back! It calls my name, I can hear it! Fulano…Fulano…come take a bite at me! Gosh, fruits in Eden can be a hassle! Lemme play with the dog for a moment, maybe it’ll take it off…
But I can’t eat Pupi! He’s my best friend! Now that’s just plain wrong! (Well, a little bit of ketchup atop of him won’t kill anyone, but, erm, that’s between you and me!) And speaking of ketchup, that thing reminds me of the fruit… I dunno, what is it? Apple, cherry, strawberry, boysenberry… Whatever color it is, it seems appetizing. But no, man, you can’t! You can’t take a look! I don’t want the Big Guy to tell me to take a hike! No! NO! I’M NOT GONNA DO IT!
But wait! Something’s moving! It’s so scaly and slimy, like river fish, but I don’t know what it’s named. It can walk? But it has some bits of gold on it. It looks like glitter, it looks like gold…Oy, what a freak! That is a tongue? I thought he was showing me the nasty finger! Well, it wouldn’t kill me if I just…Ahem, tried it…
Munch, munch, finger-licking good! But I don’t see nothing happening to me, that snake was a liar! I don’t feel… Hello, Eve! Lovely jug-um, morn-Hey, darling, why are you naked? Wait-what’s “naked”? What’s “pride", and “death”, and “pain”, and “Hell”?
I see the Big Guy! Hide! If He asks where am I, I’ll blame Eve-no, no, the snake! But if I tell Him the truth, He’ll be mad, argh! Why did I listen to that stupid snake!
I know, I know, I should pack my bags…I know, I know, You’re showing me the way out… I shouldn’t have eaten that thing, whichever it was. But even if I did wrong, can You go with me?
