But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." (John 8:6b, 7, NIV)
Am I losing my touch? Writing is one of the things that makes life go worthwhile. It’s not easy dropping out all circumstances first thing in the morning and writes up something new every day. (For me, ‘twas a habit.) Oh, how rude! All I’ve presented is my complaining and whining, and I haven’t presented God! What would he do in the midst of a “personal crisis”!?
Jesus took such steps in the case of the adulterous woman. She was ready to be stoned for her acts, ready to be killed. People were ready to rumble! And Jesus was… patiently… writing… on the ground. He was writing… what? How could He be writing, if a lady was going to be stoned for hitting another guy!? So compassionate, yet firm, was His response.
How could Jesus be so… slow to answer? What is so amazing about Jesus is His love. What He wrote, we will never know. He frustrated those who wanted some blood to be shed, and so amazing was His answer:
Jesus straightened up and asked her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" "No one, sir," she said. "Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin." (John 8:10,11, NIV)
