You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you. –Nehemiah 9:4, NIV
There can be something good, or something bad. Or a diamond in the rough. Maybe they have the potential to lead, to sing, to be creative. Maybe they barely show interest in anything, and it looks like man would easily give up on them. Or they have a fiery personality that has yet to be (safely!) unleashed. Or a calm soul that is strong in the midst of the trials.
But Nehemiah was adamant on one single thing: knowing God as He is. And that’s a bit of a challenge. How can Nehemiah recognize God if God is beyond human knowledge? He is too big to fit in as the Verb, much less as an adjective! He is far beyond the expansions of the heavens, and He is far above logical reason.
How, then, can Nehemiah describe God?
He knew that only God could save him and his people from themselves. Only God alone is mighty to forgive our trespasses, greater enough to lead us in glory.
But can we know Him fully now?
